Great 'Hawaiian' Trip

Published: February 4, 2010 10:36 am EST

Last night at Buffalo Raceway, Hawaiian Alibi, a five-year-old His Alibi gelding out of the In The Pocket mare Flask N, used a perfect pocket trip, then the passing lane, en-route to his second win in a row in 2:00.4 for owner James M. Dunn of Orchard Park, New York.

Trained and driven by reinsman Ron Beback, Jr., Hawaiian Alibi ($11.80) used a :30.2 last quarter-mile to beat second-place finisher Four Starz Invite (driven by Trent Tharps) by one length. Early pacesetter Shrewsbury Falcon (John Cummings, Jr.) came in third.

"I absolutely loved the trip," Beback said. "He won easily, and all I had to do was follow Shrewsbury Falcon all the way home."

The $2,500 share of the winning purse put Hawaiian Alibi’s lifetime bankroll at $48,862

Racing will resume on Friday February 5, with first post scheduled for 6:40 p.m.
