Moments Of Joy was game in winning the Mares Select Pace at Dover Downs on Wednesday night (Feb. 3).
Moments Of Joy turned misfortune into fortune and found the winner’s circle. Last week, a knee boot slipped and forced her into an equipment break. This week, it was a perfect journey with driver Victor Kirby, which proved the difference between victory and defeat.
Moments Of Joy and Edge Of Eternity left alertly and established early positioning at the quarter pole. Driver Andrew McCarthy eased Edge Of Eternity back to the front before blistering the opening quarter in :27. The half was reached in :55.4.
Anytime N pulled first over past the five-eighths, but offered only mild pressure. Edge Of Eternity continued on the lead and reached the three quarters in 1:23.2 while Moments of Joy continued to stalk the leader from pocket position.
In the stretch, Victor Kirby was able to maneuver into the passing lane and edged out Edge of Eternity by a nose for the victory in a 1:51.2 mile as the 9/5 favourite.
Moments Of Joy is owned and trained by Bryan Truitt. Victor Kirby drove perfectly for the win.
Edge Of Eternity finished a hard fought second for trainer Chuck Crissman Jr. Anytime N finished third for trainer Josh Green and driver Dexter Dunn.
On Thursday night, Dover Downs will offer a $10,000 guaranteed Pick 5 wager with a 50-cent minimum. The takeout is 15 percent. The wager will begin on the ninth race of the betting card. First-race post time at Dover Downs is 4:30 p.m. (EST).
