A six-race winning streak was put on the line by Jingle Bell Rocker going into Tuesday’s 15-race card at Dover Downs, and the claiming pacer pushed that number to seven….barely.
Jingle Bell Rocker, who was sent off as the 1/5 favourite in the conditioned claimer, took over the lead at the quarter pole and set middle splits of :55.4 and 1:24.4 before coming under heavy pressure from the pocket-sitting Windmill Shark in the lane. A :28.4 closing quarter was just enough for Jingle Bell Rocker to win by a head over Windmill Shark in 1:53.3. Clark P Kent took home third prize in the $5,000 affair.
Trace Tetrick mapped out the winning trip for the Les Givens-trained five-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover-Blissard Of Oz. He’s 3-for-3 so far in 2015 after going 6-for-25 in 2014. Tina Clark of Milford, Delaware owns the gelding who is closing in on $60,000 in career earnings.
