Winzel Repeats In Windsor Open Trot

Making a big move down the backstretch, Winzel stormed home from the back of the pack to score his second straight win in the $13,000 Open Trot at Windsor Raceway

on Wednesday.

With only the breaker beaten by the half, the popular Winzel and driver Don Rankin Jr. kicked into action. Moving third over and then rallying three-wide, Winzel swept up alongside the leading Revenue Agent (Trace Tetrick) as the field entered the final turn. Last week's Open champ gained the upper hand into the stretch and drew clear down the lane to score by one and a quarter lengths in 1:58.2 over the 'good' track rated one second slow. Revenue Agent finished second and pocket-sitter Ill Tell You What (Brad Kramer) rounded out the top three finishers.

The victory was Winzel's third in eight starts this year and pushed his seasonal earnings to $22,625. The seven-year-old Royal Strength-Worthy Outlaw gelding is trained by Todd Kennedy for Ontario owners Janet Fairall of Windsor, Brittany Kennedy of Dorchester and Nancy and Jack Holmes of Clinton. He now boasts 25 career wins and earnings totalling $154,847.

Winzel paid $5 to win.
