California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced on Friday that Jesse Choper, 79, of Orinda, has been reappointed to the California Horse Racing Board, where he has served since 2006.
Choper has been the Earl Warren professor of public law at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law since 1991, where he was dean from 1982 to 1992 and a professor from 1965 to 1982. He was an associate professor of law at the University of Minnesota Law School from 1961 to 1965 and was a law clerk for the Honorable Earl Warren at the U.S. Supreme Court from 1960 to 1961.
Choper is a member and former vice president of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the American Law Institute and the Order of the Coif, where he was national president from 1992 to 1995.
Choper was the University of California, Berkeley faculty athletic representative to the Pac-10 and the National Collegiate Athletic Association from 2004 to 2010.
This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Choper is registered without party preference.
