Tim Rooney Jr., whose notable family owns Yonkers Raceway, has gone on the record as saying that the racetrack has felt the impact of the Resorts World Casino and is now expanding
.
“Our numbers are flat. We lost our growth,” Rooney has been quoted as saying in an article by Crain's New York.
The report explains that the family is investing $40 million into the facility, which will translate to an additional 30,000 square feet added to the gaming floor. An Irish pub and steakhouse are also in the expansion plans.
“We are hoping it will be a vibrant, exciting place that is loud and crowded,” said Rooney, who also said that the family is pushing to have the racino be given the green light to become a destination casino.
