Even-money favourite Mappos Moenhay looked to have a long way to go turning for home, but she got the job done for her backers with a big stretch rally in the featured $7,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace on Saturday night (Feb. 27) at Flamboro Downs.

Mappos Moenhay, who was second-to-last and rallying four-wide in the final turn, out-finished her foes with a :29.3 finale over the 'good' track to win by two lengths in 1:59.1. Driver Alfie Carroll was paired with the Richard Moreau trainee for the first time in their racing careers.

Lady Hot Shot closed through the passing lane to finish second. The third-place finisher was outsider Bestulldotanite, who had worked past Lady Hot Shot for the lead through a 28-second opener and then faced consistent pressure from first over Bella Noche and a wide-rallying Topanga Canyon the rest of the way. They battled through middle splits of :58.4 and 1:28.3 before Bestulldotanite edged out Bella Noche and Topanga Canyon in a third-place photo finish.

Mappos Moenhay paid $4.10 to win as the race favourite. The five-year-old Real Desire mare earned her first win in three starts since being claimed for $18,750 on Jan. 29 at Woodbine Racetrack by Ecurie Richard Moreau Inc., 9099 3833 Quebec Inc., and Eric Bibeau. Her only other win so far this year occurred while racing for the same connections when they had her claimed for one start mid-January.
