It has been reported that Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has urged the Legislature to green-light a tax on Instant Racing machines which are currently operating at a pair of racetracks in the state.
According to an article by The Courier-Journal, the state’s Supreme Court recently ‘threw out’ the Governor’s use of an excise tax used for Kentucky to collect revenue on Instant Racing. The report notes that the state’s pari-mutuel tax is only on live racing.
The article has quoted Gov. Beshear as saying, “We’ll have to follow the court order. And so we will hopefully get something done this session that will allow us to continue to collect at least the same amount of revenue that we’re collecting right now.”
