Sunday’s edition of the $12,500 Fillies and Mares Open at Fraser Downs was the scene of an 8-1 upset thanks to the last second heroics of With Bells On

.

The five-year-old daughter of Emery Flight-Tooting sat last to the half in the six-mare affair, but she gradually worked her way into contention and then made a late surge en route to grabbing the win.

With Brandon Campbell at the helm, With Bells On watched Rossridge Fortune and Jans Rich Girl take turns on the lead through fractions of :28, :57.3 and 1:27.1. Lickcreek Jazzy started a first-over rally at the half, and Campbell opted to catch cover with the Kelly Hoerdt trainee. Still sitting fourth at the head of the lane, With Bells On used a :29.4 final frame to post the neck decision over Lickcreek Jazzy in a time of 1:57.2. Even-money favourite, Mystic Maiden, was third.

It was the second victory in five starts since being claimed for $11,250 by Kelly Hoerdt and Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, AB. The nine-time winner is just shy of $100,000 in lifetime earnings.
