The Yorkton Exhibition Association yesterday received official approval from SLGA – Horse Racing Branch of race dates for the 2009 season.

Yorkton Exhibition Track, the home of standardbred racing in Saskatchewan for the past number of years, has been approved for 16 days of harness racing with opening day being Friday, May 22. Racing will once again be each Friday evening throughout the summer with the last day being September 4.

“With the large increase in attendance and betting handle (43%) throughout the 2008 season, we are looking forward to another exciting season of Harness racing in Yorkton,” said Racing chairman, Dave Nussbaumer.

Construction of the new pari-mutuel/concession and washroom facility is into the final stages and will be ready for opening day. Further upgrades to the new paddock, repairs to barns and upgrading of track maintenance equipment are all planned for the 2009 season.

“Horsemen from Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan will start moving into Yorkton for the summer meet in mid to late April and we expect the barns to be full again this year,” stated Nussbaumer.

Stall Applications can be obtained by calling the Yorkton Exhibition office at 306-783-4800.
