Pure Silky took early control from the pole in the $17,000 featured distaff pace on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 26) at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania, and after establishing the lineup, she was not threatened in a 1:52.1 victory.
Anthony Napolitano gave no thought to surrendering to anybody at any point of the mile with Pure Silky, and the four-year-old Tellitlikeitis mare backed up his confident tactics, beating pocket-setter Southwind Java by four lengths. Pure Silky notched her third straight win and sent her earnings over the $100,000 mark for trainer Lance Hudson and owner William Hartt.
The victory in the feature for “A-Nap” was one of three on the day, tying him with Matt Kakaley for the day’s top honours. Kakaley, leading driver at Pocono last year, has 12 victories in the first four cards of the 2023 meet at Pocono, while Napolitano is second with eight driving triumphs.
With the move to March, Pocono will add a third day of racing to its schedule, with 1 p.m. racing on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Each day this coming week, Pocono will host the inaugural round of the popular Game Of Claims Series. Program pages for all Pocono races will be available on the PHHA website.
