Polished horseman Bill Davis knew he was making a big move when he was pressured to relocate his stable to Ontario. "I knew it was going to be tough. And you have to pay your dues; it is kind of like starting all over. You have
to make yourself recognizable and show you can do the job, before people," Davis said.
His quotes have come via an article by The Province.
The 2003 O'Brien Award of Horsemanship winner explains in the article that some of his owners had wanted to take a shot at racing in Ontario, therefore he packed up his stable and moved to the tough Ontario Racing scene.
"When we got here, most of our horses did well and we began winning races. We also lost many of them in claiming races. And that was tough, because I was under the understanding by my owners if I would go to Woodbine, they were going to support me and replace those horses," he said.
"Unfortunately, that never happened, they never replaced their horses and I was soon down to only a handful of horses. Which made training here very tough," he added.
Even though some of Davis' stock is no longer in his shedrow, his numbers speak for themselves. His operation has sent out a total of 37 starters this year, has won seven races, notched seven second-place finishes and a trio of thirds. The stable has banked over $90,000 to this point in 2010 and his training average currently sits at .321.
