
Violets Rainbow capped off a training triple for Jaymes McAssey on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Saratoga Casino Hotel, as the veteran mare captured the $17,143 matinee feature for fillies and mares.
Violets Rainbow kicked off her local campaign with back-to-back wins after 10 starts on Canadian turf before stepping up to the Fillies and Mares Open on Feb. 18, where she finished fourth. In Tuesday’s feature, Brett Beckwith guided the veteran mare first-over, grinding down longshot leader Linemup Knockmback (Jimmy Devaux) in the stretch. Violets Rainbow stopped the clock in 1:54.3, securing her third win of the year. Linemup Knockmback held for second, while 3-5 favourite Always Watching (Jordan Derue) settled for third.
Violets Rainbow returned $5.70 to win in Tuesday’s feature.
The eight-year-old mare by Art Official out of Angels N Demons is owned by Ian Fromowitz of Richmond Hill, Ont., and trained by McAssey, who enjoyed a training triple on the day. McAssey also sent out Think Ahead ($2.30) and Downtown Tonight ($2.30), both securing their third wins of the season.
Live harness racing continues on Wednesday at Saratoga with a matinee that begins at 12 p.m.
