Last to the half, but first to the finish line was the tactical approach taken by driver Scott Coulter with YS Tallia in Thursday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap at Flamboro Downs.

Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, YS Tallia got away fifth in the compact group while Manhattan Night marched to the top and sliced out first-half fractions of :29.3 and 1:01. YS Tallia tipped to the outside on the way to the mid-way point, and she quickly got into gear for Coulter.

She made a powerful brush to the top in the backstretch and swept past the three-quarter pole in 1:29.3 before using a :29.1 final frame to win by a half-length margin over I Wish You Well in 1:58.4. Manhattan Night took home the show dough.

Richard Moreau, who celebrated a four-win performance on the card, trains the seven-year-old daughter of Western Ideal-Bolero Tallia for owner/breeder Yves Sarrazin of La Presentation, QC. The mare is now a 22-time winner with earnings just shy of $290,000.
