There seemed to be no stopping driver Chris Christoforou during Monday’s 11-race program at Woodbine Racetrack, as the O’Brien Award-winning reinsman manufactured a five-win performance.
He won back-to-back races early on the card thanks to a Race 2 triumph with Little Quick in 1:56.4 followed by a Race 3 score with Magic Madness in 1:58. He returned to victory lane in Race 5 thanks to a 1:58.2 triumph with Bruce The Brave, and later visited the winner’s circle in Race 9 with P L Gyro after his 1:57 tally. A gate-to-wire score in a time of 1:55.2 in the finale with Blissfull Years proved to be the icing on the cake for the productive pilot.
The five-win night helped lift Christoforou’s yearly win total to 24 while his lifetime number jumped to 6,057.
Multiple winning tickets on Monday’s Jackpot Hi 5 wager at Woodbine Racetrack forced a carryover of $404,344.71 into Thursday evening’s tenth race at the Rexdale, Ontario oval.
The Christoforou-driven and Jeff Byron-trained Blissfull Years took Monday’s finale at odds of 7-1, with Goldstar Badlands (6-1), Jolt Of Whiskey (17-1), Monte Cristo (5-1) and Cobble Beach (5-1) rounding out the top finishers. The winning combination of numbers 9-2-8-3-6 kicked back $4,416.88 to winning ticket holders for a $.20-based wager.
