It has been reported that two horses that were involved in a barn collapse which occurred on Friday (February 20) have lost their lives.
An article by CBS Boston states that a total of seven horses were trapped Friday when a roof of a barn at Bobby’s Ranch, a stable that offers trail rides to the public, collapsed due to the weight of ice and snow during the morning hours.
The CBS Boston report states that two of the horses lost their lives in the incident at the family-owned location in Westford, Massachusetts which has been in operation since 1972.
The article states that caregivers were alerted to the collapse by a scared horse that was running loose on the property.
According to the report, firefighters and volunteers worked for five hours to help extricate the trapped horses. Heat was pumped into the fallen enclosure and horses were sedated in order to rescue the horses.
The five horses that were saved from the fallen structure were shipped to other nearby stables.
