Although Notable Beauty was beat off the gate in the $12,600 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Wednesday at Western Fair Raceway she was not going to let anyone beat her to the wire
.
In the evening's feature event, Indeman (Trevor Henry) fired to the lead from his outside post position ahead of inside starter Notable Beauty and driver Anthony MacDonald. After aborting an early attempt to take over command from the 28-1 longshot past the opening quarter of :27.2, Notable Beauty followed Indeman to the next marker in :57.2.
As they approached three-quarters in 1:27.1, Notable Beauty pulled the pocket once again and this time soared past the leader around the final turn. The 8-5 second choice kicked home in :29.4 to prevail by almost four lengths in 1:57.1. Grandma Dorothy (Greg Dustin) journeyed first over to place and favourite Ostinato (Billy Davis Jr.), last week's Preferred winner, came from last to finish third.
Notable Beauty paid $5.40 to win. The victory was her second (consecutive) in three seasonal starts for trainer Nicholas Fair and Ontario owners Alan and Elizabeth Fair. The five-year-old Western Terror-Fans Bikini now boasts 13 wins on her career record and close to $140,000 in earnings.
