Make it six-in-a-row and counting for Musical Rhythm thanks to his dominant score in Monday’s $50,000 final of the General Brock Series at Woodbine Racetrack.
The series record-smashing performance for the Ben Baillargeon pupil was a thing of beauty considering he covered the mile in 1:53.4 and the margin of victory was 8-1/2 lengths. The former series mark of 1:54.2 was set by E W Fisher back in 2011.
Musical Rhythm, who posted victories in 1:56.1 and 1:54 in the preliminary legs, clearly saved his best effort for last. Mario Baillargeon sent the streaking square gaiter to the position of command from Post 9 and they never looked back through panels of :26.4, :57 and 1:26.2. The :27.2 closing quarter was too much for the pocket-sitting runner-up, Hillsonator, to handle. Third prize went to Five Below.
The four-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Musical Victory is now 8-for-9 since joining forces with co-owner/trainer Ben Baillargeon. The $33,000 purchase from last fall’s Harrisburg Mixed Sale has already hauled in $94,000 for Baillargeon and partners Santo Vena, Nunzio Vena and Claude Hamel.
