An article by CBC News Windsor captured the mood aboard one of the buses headed down to Queen's Park in Toronto for the rally in support of the Ontario horse-racing industry.
"I’m going to defend our industry," the report quoted third generation horsewoman Karen Duck as saying before she boarded the rally-bound bus. "We just can’t let the government take our industry away."
The rally was scheduled after the Ontario Liberal Government stated that it desires to alter the mutually-beneficial slots-at-racetracks program in attempt to balance the province's deficit budget.
"Having me and my family on the welfare line, for example, as opposed to contributing, as we have for generations, to the tax base --- and having 65,000 of us standing there unable to contribute to healthcare --- I feel is bad business," horseman Mark Williams was quoted as saying.
