The Maryland Racing Commission has revealed that the Maryland Jockey Club, operator of both Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course, has failed to file legally-obligated financial disclosures for the last two years
.
According to a report by hometownannapolis.com, state politicians are raising eyebrows over the matter. Penn National Gaming, part owners of the Maryland Jockey Club, recently bought Rosecroft Raceway for $11 million, even though they are asking for government handouts.
"There are a lot of questions here in the General Assembly regarding why we are giving them money when they just bought another race track," the article quotes State Senator Ed DeGrange as saying. "It seems like one partner (in the Maryland Jockey Club) has plenty of financial backing."
