After a quietly solid three-year-old season in 2024, the well-bred trotter Bronzer is back on track for his four-year-old campaign and debuted impressively during the session of qualifiers on Friday, Feb. 21 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
With driver Louis-Philippe Roy at the lines, Bronzer sat the pocket behind an amped-up Collector S (Jonathan Drury) through fractions of :27.1 and a wind-assisted :56.1 before making his move around the far turn. Bronzer blew by his brown rival and then powered away from his competition. After a 1:26 third station, Bronzer stretched a two-length lead out to more than six, tripping the timer in 1:57. The Canam Banker (Trevor Henry) was more am than can on this occasion, finishing second like the U.S men's hockey team was the runner-up in the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off on Thursday night, losing to Canada in the tournament's championship game.
On that note, driver Louis-Philippe Roy also came out of that game as the winner in a bet with 2024 Rising Star Award winner Brett Beckwith. Roy and Beckwith wagered on their respective countries, with the loser donating to the charity of the winner's choice. Connor McDavid's overtime game-winning goal sealed the deal for Canada and for Roy, with Beckwith making a $1,000 donation to Make-A-Wish Canada on Friday morning.
Back to the qualifiers.
A son of Muscle Hill from the millionaire trotter Win Missy B, Bronzer posted a 4-3-4 summary from 14 starts and banked $61,404 during his three-year-old campaign while racing primarily in Canada against conditioned company. He's owned by trainer Amanda Fine along with Marty Fine and Highland Thoroughbred Farm.
