Older Trotting Mare of the Year, Thundering Ovation, also took home overall Horse of the Year honours during The Raceway at Western Fair District’s annual awards banquet, which was held Saturday, February 20 in London, Ont.
The seven-year-old daughter of Thunder Road put up outstanding numbers in 2015, posting eight of her nine wins during the season at the London oval. Thundering Ovation banked just over $62,000 overall for trainer Gerald Sloan and owners Joanne and Courtney Sloan of Harley, Ont.
Winners in three other categories were also announced the night of the event. These included the Dave Wall Outstanding Service Award, which went to Jerry Sims and Penny Francis, the Ruth Herbert Horse Woman of the Year, which went to Kim McNiven, and the Caretaker of the Year award, which went to John Holcombe.
A large crowd of more than 300 attended the dinner and awards ceremony, which was held in the Progress Building at the Western Fair District. Check out The Raceway’s social media pages in the coming days to view photos from the event.
