Scuola Hanover ($3.20) scored her third consecutive victory, narrowly staving off a late charge from Shes Pukka N to take Wednesday's (Feb. 2) $25,000 Mares Open Handicap Pace at Dover Downs.
Scuola Hanover and driver Art Stafford Jr. yielded to Shes Pukka N through a :26.4 first quarter before retaking in front of the grandstand. The 7-year-old A Rocknroll Dance mare controlled the half in :55 and three-quarters in 1:22.4 and evaded a stalled outer flow led by Major Occasion A. In deep stretch, Scuola Hanover held off a late challenge from Shes Pukka N (Tony Morgan), winning by a head in 1:51. Soho Burning Love A (Tim Tetrick) rallied off cover for third.
Trainer Andrew Stafford co-owns Scuola Hanover with Art Stafford and Thomas Ireland.
