From second over, Encarnacion launched to the centre of the course moving to the final turn and delivered as the odds-on favourite in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot at Flamboro Downs on Sunday (Feb. 2).
Keepall cleared command while Pound Sterling parked to a :27.3 first quarter before settling fro the pocket moving towards the stretch first time. Glider Man angled first over approaching a :57.3 half with Encarnacion tracking cover heading to the backside. With Glider Man stalled nearing three-quarters in 1:27.2, driver Robert Shepherd sent Encarnacion three wide and edged to the lead entering the stretch while expanding to a two-and-a-quarter length advantage in a 1:57.3 mile. Keepall faded to second with Pound Sterling taking third.
A four-year-old gelding by Archangel, Encarnacion won his ninth race from 38 starts, earning $102,388. Isabelle Darveau conditions the $3.30 winner for owner 1187422 Ontario Inc.
Toot Toot N took his competition gate to wire in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace with a 1:54.3 effort.
Driver Ed Hensley landed Toot Toot N on the point from post 6 while Racemup sat second to a :28 first quarter. Shadow Moon then mounted a first-over bid from fourth passing a :57.4 half and ranged towards the pacesetter approaching three-quarters in 1:26.1. Toot Toot N maintained command around the final turn as Shadow Moon faltered, and through the stretch held firm by a length over Racemup with Brandon Hanover finishing third.
Co-owned by Hensley with trainer Ashleigh Hensley, Toot Toot N won his 28th race from 126 starts, earning $194,764. The nine-year-old Gotta Go Cullen gelding returned $10.80 to win.
