The Yonkers Raceway tote board was under assault by a particular Cams Card Shark gelding during the afternoon of Tuesday, February 2, and it resulted in a whopping $192 win mutuel.
Sent off at odds of 95-1 in Race 8, driver Steve Smith and Bullseye fired home from the back of the pack and captured the $10,000 event in 1:55.
The duo was unhurried from Post 7 and was positioned seventh at the three-quarters of a mile pole. Bullseye was towed up into the race third-over and was charted in fifth as the field made its way into the stretch the final time. The fractions had been cut in :27.2, :56.3 and 1:25.3 over the ‘fast’ track.
Bullseye outmuscled Inthenameofjames (driven by Jason Bartlett) by three-quarters of length at the wire. The win was the five-year-old’s first on-the-board finish this season. Last Dragon (Brian Sears), who was sent off as the public’s post-time choice, led into the stretch, but tired and finished last.
Bullseye is owned by Alroy Chow and is trained by Anita Vallee.
Bullseye topped a $793 exacta and obviously began the track’s Tuesday Pick 5 sequence with quite the upset.
The Pick 5 went unclaimed, and thus Yonkers’ Friday Pick 5 will feature a carryover of $2,163.39 (50-cent base wager, Races 7 through 11).
