Bessie endured a contested first quarter and went on to a comfortable victory in 1:54 — matching her career best — in Tuesday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.
Bessie was stretched by Boos Party Girl while trying for the early lead and forced to a speedy :27.2 opening panel. But the five-year-old daughter of Equinox Bi-Cantabs Chorine easily thwarted the first-over bid of Whata Donato and defeated her by three-quarters of a length for Jim Pantaleano. Boos Party Girl saved show.
Rick Clapper trains Bessie, who won for the fourth time in her last seven starts and pushed her lifetime bankroll to $192,964, for Paula Clapper, Umholtz Racing Stable and Kennedy Sports Corp.
Aaron Merriman and Dave Palone each collected three victories on the 15-race card.
