Casimir Jitterbug edged by favourite Sparky Mark to win the $34,000 Preferred Pace for the second consecutive Saturday night at Woodbine.

With Mike Saftic catch-driving, the defending Preferred champion lined up behind insider My Man Charley (Billy Davis Jr.) early on after a post two start. Meanwhile, outside post six assignee Sparky Mark (Scott Zeron) fired off the gate and worked his way to the top before the first turn.

The 4-5 bettor's choice reached the opening quarter mark in :26.4 and proceeded to the half in :55.1.

As Sparky Mark marched towards three-quarters in 1:23.1, Saftic sent Casimir Jitterbug first up from third with Mach Dreamer (Sylvain Filion) and Mystician (Jody Jamieson) following his cover.

Sparky Mark maintained his lead into the stretch, but Casimir Jitterbug managed to wear him down in the final strides for the narrow score in 1:51.2. The winning margin was just a head as Sparky Mark was forced to settle for runner-up honours again. Mystician finished one and three-quarter lengths behind in third.

Casimir Jitterbug paid $6.90 to win as the 5-2 second choice.

Tony O'Sullivan trains the son of Sir Luck, who is a perfect two-for-two in his six-year-old season for owner Frank Bellino.

Last year's Remember Sudbury Stake champion now boasts 24 wins on his career record with purse earnings climbing to $330,423.
