A compact group of four distaffers faced the starting gate in Friday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, and fans saw Casimir Swamp Girl use last second heroics to secure the win.

Casimir Swamp Girl, who was sent off as the 1-2 favourite, got away last for driver Colin Kelly. The Girls Of Image laid down fractions of :27.3 and :57 before being overtaken by Firebby A just before the three-quarter pole.

The group whizzed by that marker in 1:26.3, and the action was just beginning to heat up. Casimir Swamp Girl, who was still sitting last heading into the final quarter, fired home in :30 and that was enough for her to post the win by a head in 1:57.1 over Firebby A in 1:57.1. Significance took home the show dough.

Kyle Bossence trains the five-year-old daughter of Up The Credit-Trust Me Ashley for owner William Pendleton of Kenilworth, Ont. The mare won for the 19th time in her career while pushing her lifetime earnings over $105,000.
