Driver J Harris jetted Cousin Mary to the top and endured little pressure as she cruised to a five-length victory in the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
Sent the odds-on favourite, the six-year-old Camluck mare secured control from Regal Luck moving to a :29.1 opening quarter. Solid Queen, from fifth, soon edged off the pylons to begin her pursuit for the point through a :59.4 half but managed to only match strides with the pocket sitter passing three-quarters in 1:29. Cousin Mary opened her lead from two lengths to four swinging into the stretch and gently expanded that margin in progress to a 1:58.2 win over Solid Queen chasing from second. Dex The Land, last at the top of the stretch, rallied for third.
Owned and trained by Jeffrey Williamson, Cousin Mary won her 22nd race from 74 starts, earning $281,391. She paid $2.90 to win.
