The white-hot Pathtodover employed front-end tactics in Tuesday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred at The Raceway at The Western Fair District, and that proved to be the winning move for the distaffer.
Trainer/driver/owner Doug Bowins pointed Pathtodover to the front from Post 4 and the eight-year-old daughter of Straight Path-Armbro Kerchief successfully sliced out fractions of :29, :58.2 and 1:26.3 before using a :30.2 final frame to stave off a late challenge from Cards That Count. Sweet Bet rounded out the top three.
The half-length score in 1:57 was the third of the season in five trips to the track for 30-time winner who now boasts lifetime earnings totaling $195,823.
A two-win performance by driver Alfie Carroll during Tuesday's 12-race program helped earn him a share of the lead with fellow teamster Nick Steward in the drivers' standings at the London oval. Carroll clicked with Steal Me A Kiss (2:01) and Safety Zone (2:01.2) while Steward won with Beluga Hanover (1:59.3). Both reinsmen have made 34 trips to victory lane this season.
