It was the second verse of the same song for Bee Two Bee on Tuesday (Feb. 18) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, as he scored by 6-1/4 lengths for the second straight week in the $12,000 Preferred Pace.
Leaving from the far outside post with driver Travis Cullen as the 1-9 choice, Bee Two Bee got away in fifth in the field of six early while Ideal Perception (Anthony Haughan) laid down the quarter in :28.2. Ideal Perception briefly released 35-1 shot Century Inspector (Tyler Borth) before retaking from the pocket, only for Bee Two Bee to make his move to the lead and take command before the half in :57.3. Once clear, Bee Two Bee opened up on the field, scampering away by 5-1/2 lengths at the three-quarter pole in 1:26.2.
The lead only widened for Bee Two Bee on the final turn, turning for home nine-lengths clear of Cheddar Bay (Daryl Thiessen). Cullen geared down the favourite late in the lane, allowing Bee Two Bee to coast home by 6-1/4 lengths in 1:56.
Cheddar Bay finished second, despite broken equipment before the start which would lead to a refund on all wagers placed on the eventual runner-up. Ohare Hanover (Michael Whelan) rallied from the backfield to finish third.
Trained by Jodie Cullen, Bee Two Bee has won three of five in his eight-year-old campaign. The son of Sunshine Beach-Bee Fullof Steinam is a 36-time winner in his career, and has banked $479,668 for owners Donald Mac Rae and Blair Maclauchlan.
