Fresh off a victory at Flamboro Downs last week, the class-jumping Heres The Magic trotted to an upset victory in Tuesday's $11,000 Preferred 2 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.

Sent postward as the second longest shot in the field of eight, 10-1 shot Heres The Magic advanced first over from third and opened up nearly three lengths to take the featured ninth race in 1:58.4. Alfie Carroll worked out the winning trip for trainer Victor Puddy and owner Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ont.

Amigo Loco (Robert Sparling Jr.) fired off the gate from post six and reached the opening quarter in :28.1. As he led the way to the half in :58.3, Heres The Magic moved underway and took over command down the backstretch nearing the 1:28 third quarter mark. Long Ago (Bruce Richardson) followed his cover to finish second while Amigo Loco settled for third.

Heres The Magic returned $23.40 to his backers. Favourite Highland Yankee (Robert Shepherd) broke stride at the start taking himself out of contention.

The five-year-old Kadabra gelding now has three wins from six starts in 2014 with earnings climbing to $13,380.

Rubber Belly ($11.20) returned to the $7,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 class where she was victorious two weeks ago and scored again in 1:58 flat with Robert Sparling Jr. aboard. The five-year-old L H Stryker mare is owned by trainer Randy Parish, along with James Parish of Elmwood, Ont. and Brent Parish of Chesley, Ont.
