There was no shortage of speed for pacing gelding Curator in his $8,400 conditioned assignment during Monday’s Family Day matinee program at The Raceway at The Western Fair District.
In fact, the gelding’s 1:54.3 score goes down as the fastest mile of the season over the London oval and it equaled the nation’s fastest mile of the season for a pacer over a half-mile oval.
Curator was parked at the quarter pole in :27.4 in a ‘give and go’ situation with Flames Cammi Boy, but Curator was on top through middle splits of :57.1 and 1:25.4 before using a :28.4 closing panel to seal the deal by three lengths. The 2-5 favourite easily defeated Flames Cammi Boy and Kendal Gustav while improving this year’s record to 2-0-1 from six starts.
Travis Henry mapped out the winning trip for the Jack Darling-trained five-year-old son of American Ideal-Gallery Hop. Jack Darling Stables Ltd of Cambridge, ON owns the 13-time winner who boosted his career bankroll to $156,110.
