Federal Court Rules Purses Not GST Exempt

The Federal Court of Appeal recently delivered its decision regarding GST on trainer and driver purse winnings

.

The court overturned a 2008 Tax Court ruling, wherein horseman Joe Hudon contended that purse money received by trainers and drivers from pari-mutuel contests should be GST-exempt, as they were part of driver / trainer income.

You think the federal government doesn't know where harness racing will be in 5 years!!!

The federal government is just doing what the track operators have been doing for years,getting as much money out of the game before this 1960's game goes out of business.

Keep ruling against the owners and soon, there won't be any. It doesn't cost much to be a driver, but it does to be an owner!!!!!
