
New Rules has kicked off 2025 with a bang and on Monday (Feb. 17), the David Menary student added another $36,000 Preferred Trot to his resume at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Six horses went to the gate in the featured class with New Rules settling into the outside post. Trevor Henry eased New Rules off the gate and into fifth. Royalty Beer (Tyler Jones) was the first to click the quarter in :29.3 before being overtaken by Amigo Volo (James MacDonald), who commanded the half in :59.1 and three quarters in 1:27.4. New Rules was the first to advance on the outside through the third quarter pole.
With the swiftest final panel in :29, New Rules charged home to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:57.1. Amigo Volo finished second with Spitfire Oversees (Anthony MacDonald) third.
Owned by Pollack Racing LLC, New Rules is a five-year-old gelded son of Lookslikeachpndale and the Cantab Hall mare Mini Her. He won his fourth race from five starts this year and his 20th career start. In 61 races, New Rules boasts $363,862 in lifetime earnings. He paid $3.40 to win as the favourite.
