Redevelopment plans have been submitted to the City of Barrie for the former site of Barrie Raceway.
According to a report by Simcoe.com, an updated redevelopment proposal for the property located at Highway 400 and Essa Road was submitted to the City of Barrie on Jan. 17.
The property was acquired from real estate investment company Osmington Inc. by Greenworld Construction Inc./Digram Developments Inc., and the new proposed mixed use residential and commercial development includes nine high-rise condominium towers totalling 2,407 units, plus 421 townhouse units.
A spokesperson for Greenworld said the proposed development of the property would supply housing stock to accommodate the growth projected for the city.
A public meeting on the revised redevelopment application is scheduled for Wednesday, April 5.
A previous public meeting for the prior applicant's submission was held in August 2020.
Harness racing ceased at Barrie Raceway back in July 2001 and shifted locally to Georgian Downs later that year.
