Ole Jack Magic and driver Scott Young rebuffed a mid-mile challenge and went on to win the $7,500 Preferred 3 Trot featured on Thursday night's (February 16) harness racing card at Flamboro Downs.
After looping to the lead through a :28.1 quarter, Ole Jack Magic was headed briefly at the :57 half-mile mark by challenger A Nashty Business (Daniel Potvin), who had launched out from third. However, Ole Jack Magic regained control around the turn heading to three-quarters in 1:26.2 and trotted home clear of the late-closers for the 1:56.3 triumph.
Ole Jack Magic paid $5.30 to win as the 8-5 second wagering favourite. Little Red Chev (Travis Henry) and Moonbeam Hall (Bob McClure) finished one and three-quarter lengths behind in second and third, respectively, while 6-5 favourite P L Hercules (Matt Dupuis) crossed the wire in fourth.
Jerry Duford trains the six-year-old Kadabra-Whitesand Electra gelding and shares ownership with breeder Joanne Wray as part of Home Stretch Holdings Inc. The win was Ole Jack Magic's first of the year from four starts and 15th lifetime, bumping his bankroll to nearly $190,000.
During Thursday night's program, Flamboro Downs officials made a special presentation congratulating driver Bob McClure on reaching 1,500 career wins last night.
