Homebred pacing mare Greystone Ladylike overpowered her six foes in the stretch to win Friday's featured $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred at Woodbine Racetrack.

Firing off the gate from the outside post position in the evening's ninth dash, favourite Continual Velocity (Jody Jamieson) worked her way to the lead during a :27.2 opening quarter. The 4-5 bettors' choice proceeded to the half in :56.4 and three-quarters in 1:25 while Mach A Wish (Mike Saftic) advanced first over from fourth with Greystone Ladylike following her cover from fifth. Picking up the live catch-drive, Scott Zeron swung Greystone Ladylike three-wide into the stretch and the Brent Belore trainee powered home to win by two and a half lengths in 1:53. Didrickson (Doug McNair) rallied home from third over to place while Continual Velocity held on for third.

Owned and bred by James and Jean Caddey of Embro, Ont., the four-year-old Stonebridge Regal-Lady Courtalisa mare notched her ninth career win and pushed her bankroll to $136,784.

The 6-1 third choice, who was a runner-up to Continual Velocity in her last outing two weeks ago and upset the Preferred mares prior to that start, returned $14.10 to her backers for the Friday score.

This season Greystone Ladylike has won half of her six starts and boasts a perfect record for top three finishes.
