Despite stepping up to take on the top distaffers at Fraser Downs on Sunday, KG Mist was able to find her way to the winner’s circle for the second consecutive week for owners Rod Hennessy and Lorne Duffield.
The Alberta duo watched the five-year-old daughter of As Promised romp to a 1:54.3 victory against easier company one week ago at Fraser Downs, and they had to be pleased with what they saw from the pacing mare in today’s follow-up assignment in the $15,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace.
In rein to Hennessy, KG Mist was allowed to sit just off the pace through opening fractions of :27 and :56.2 before being asked to go to work. The Alivia Gogush trainee tipped off the rail past the mid-way point and proceeded to push the pace to the three quarter pole in 1:24.1.
Real Beauty maintained a length advantage on her first-over foe to the top of the lane before being overtaken in deep stretch. KG Mist only needed a :30.3 final quarter to post the neck decision over Got The Munchies in a time of 1:54.4. Third-place finisher Real Beauty was three-quarters of a length in arrears.
The victory was the third this season in just five tries for the 10-time winner, who now boasts more than $172,000 in lifetime earnings.
