A regular competitor in this winter's Pop-Up Series action at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Boots kicked off a new event with a career-best victory to close out the Friday, Feb. 14 program.
This Pop-Up Series is for male pacers four years old and younger that were non-winners of $25,000 or not averaging $1,500 per start in a minimum of 10 starts in 2024-2025.
Coming out of a similar Pop-Up Series where he was beaten less than a length in the final after winning a previous leg of that event, Boots was sent postward as the 7-5 favourite in this $12,000 first round. Guiding his fourth winner of the night, Louis-Philippe Roy put the four-year-old son of Upfront Hannahsboy in contention off the gate from post six, sweeping from third to first past the quarter pole. After getting up covered up on the backside, Boots re-took command turning for home and drew clear by nearly three lengths to take a new lifetime mark of 1:55.4. Familiar foes from the last series, Why Wouldnt Ya (James MacDonald) and Smiles For Miles (Billy Davis Jr.) finished second and third, respectively.
Boots won his debut from the Ben Hollingsworth stable for owner A Bianco Holdings Limited, Woodbridge, Ont. Unraced as a two-year-old, he now has five victories from 24 starts lifetime with earnings just over $40,000. Boots paid $4.90 to win.
