After a night in Ontario at the O'Brien Awards as runner-up in the Horsemanship category, Century Downs' leading driver and trainer Travis Cullen returned to Alberta in time for the start of the track's second season on Sunday, Feb. 14 and reeled off five wins.

Cullen kicked off the eight-race opening day card with consecutive victories aboard the career-debuting sophomore filly L Dees Sunsetbeach ($6.30), Wigesjet ($5) and Southwind Luna ($3.20). The 23-year-old horseman also closed out the program with back-to-back wins in rein to Rocket Moma ($2.90) and Counter Strike ($4.20). Cullen's trainees won by more than 37 lengths combined.

Cullen, who won an O’Brien in 2013 as Canada’s Future Star, was a finalist at last night's Black Tie Gala celebrating the top performers of 2015 along with winner Dr. Ian Moore, trainer of Horse of the Year State Treasurer. Cullen earned 251 victories as a driver and his stable produced 237 winners during a career year in 2015 that saw him top the $1 million mark in both categories.
