Major Stone was an impressive winner when added back to the Lasix program one week ago, and he was ultra-impressive in Monday’s follow-up effort against Preferred foes at Western Fair Raceway
.
Tony O’Sullivan took over the training duties of Major Stone last season, and after going 0-for-3 for the new barn he has clearly found hit his best stride.
Scott Zeron worked out a beautiful trip for the six-year-old son of Art Major, who sat in the pocket behind Acceptable Risk through panels of :27.3, :58.1 and 1:27.2 before stepping past that foe in the lane. Major Stone’s final quarter of :29.3 was enough to earn him a half-length triumph over race favourite Pacific Oak, who did the first over road work. Acceptable Risk faded late and finished third.
Sent off at odds of 5-1, Major Stone stopped the teletimer in 1:57.2 for owner Joe Martinelli of Staten Island, NY. The 13-time winner has now stashed away more than $232,000 in lifetime earnings.
