Harborlite Ambrose and driver Austin Sorrie circled a wide-open field of a half-dozen Preferred pacers to prevail in a blanket finish on Friday, Feb. 13 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
The evening's featured $11,000 Preferred Handicap concluded in a four-across photo finish, with Harborlite Ambrose, who was shuffled to last down the backstretch the final time, closing widest of all in the stretch and getting up in time for the 1:56.3 triumph over the "good" track.
After crossing to command from the outside post off a Preferred win in his last start two weeks ago, The Magic Moment (Garrett Rooney) set fractions of :27.3, :57.2 and 1:26.2 but was swarmed in the stretch. Pocket-pursuer It Takes Two (Samuel Fillion) shot through at the pylons to nab second, a snout shy of outside closer Harborlite Ambrose. In between that pair, Docsphillycheese (Nick Steward) edged out Drinkin Buddy (Brady Galliers) off his cover for third.
Stepping up in class off back-to-back wins at Western Fair and Flamboro Downs, Harborlite Ambrose was sent postward as the 8-5 favourite from the inside post and returned $5.20 to win.
Rachel Andrew trains the five-year-old pacer, who has hit the board in his first five starts of the year for $18,706 in purse earnings. Owned by Ralph Jardine of Arthur, Ont., the homebred son of Up The Credit and Mattgellan has won 17 of his 64 races lifetime while banking a total of $123,853.
