If you've prompted a No Show Wagering stipulation on a Monday night at Woodbine Racetrack after just two lifetime starts, you've turned some heads already. Count more turned after Monday's card, courtesy Talbot Romeo.
Two weeks ago, the three-year-old son of Roll With Joe made his 2017 debut in impressive fashion with a 1:53.3 score at Woodbine for driver Mike Saftic, trainer John Pentland and owner/breeder Karen Carroll, winning by eight lengths. On Monday, it was more of the same. Leaving from post seven, Saftic patiently guided Talbot Romeo to the lead and never looked back on route to the 1:54.2 win. Dream Of Luck (Randy Waples) chased with futility from the pocket, finishing second by two and a half lengths with Desired Treasure (Phil Hudon) another six lengths back to grab show.
Unraced at two, Talbot Romeo is now for two-for-three as a sophomore. The homebred is a son of $400,000 winning Ontario Sires Stakes graduate Northern Duchess, also a Pentland pupil.
With the Jackpot Hi-5 going unsolved yet again in Race 10, the carryover going into Thursday's card will be $259,689.07.
