Favoured Carolsideal continued her form spree Friday night, handily winning Yonkers Raceway’s $35,000 featured Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace with driver Dan Dube in tow.
In play early from post position seven, Carolsideal’s four-hole became a three-hole after invading Medusa (George Brennan) broke while going for the lead. That left pole-positioned Palm Patrol (Mark MacDonald) in charge, albeit briefly.
Carolsideal then moved to take over, doing so after a :28.2 opening quarter-mile. A pair of cheapo 29-second next intervals (:57.2, 1:26.2) gave the leader a length-and-a-half advantage into the lane. She then held sway, whipping a passing lane-diving Palm Patrol by a head in a season’s-best 1:54.4. Handsoffmycookie (Matt Kakaley) was third.
For Carolsideal, a six-year-old daughter of Western Ideal trained by Rene Allard for co-owners him (as Allard Racing), Yves Sarrazin and Kapildeo Singh, it was her fourth win in as many seasonal starts. She paid $6.90.
