An accident in the seventh race at Fraser Downs on Saturday resulted in a pair of drivers requiring medical attention after being thrown to the track when their horses collided
.
Racing in third at the rail around the first turn, Silver Princess, driven by Randy Rutledge, put in a bad step and fell to the track. Red Star Fantasia could not avoid the fallen horse in front of her and collided, sending Rutledge to the ground along with his own driver, Tyler Remillard.
Driver Brandon Campbell was able to secure Red Star Fantasia and pulled up the loose horse. Most of the other drivers also pulled up their horses following the accident. As a result, the judges declared the race a “No Contest”.
Rutledge and Remillard were both tended to by the on-track ambulance. Reports from Fraser Downs indicate that Rutledge walked off the track, but decided to go to a clinic on his own after feeling light headed. Other reports indicate that Remillard has a broken collar bone and the shoulder blade is broken is several places
Both horses walked off the track on their own with scrapes and bruises, but seemed fine otherwise.
Trot Insider will provide a further update on the conditions of the horses and drivers involved when made available.
