Esquire secured the front and never looked back in progress to a 1:58.4 victory in the $10,000 Preferred 3 Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Friday (Feb. 11).
Driver Marc St. Louis Jr. fired the nine-year-old Kadabra gelding off the car from post five to take the lead from pylon-starter Sorprese moving to the quarter in :29.3. Sizzlen Hot Herbie raced parked up the backside and started to gain ground the tempo-setter swinging by the stands and towards a :59.3 half. From first over, he applied mild pressure to Esquire as the Mark Goddard trainee nonetheless maintained a two-length advantage to three-quarters in 1:28.2. He widened that margin coming for home, hitting the beam 3-1/2 lengths better than Herbs Journey flying late to take second from Sizzlen Hot Herbie. Goaltender took fourth.
Owned by Brandon Guerra, Esquire won his 25th race from 114 starts, pushing his earnings to $252,426. He paid $5 to win.
