Kendall Seelster turned a pocket trip into an eye-catching triumph in Friday’s $32,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The 1:51 decision helped the mare extend her winning streak to two in a row, and something else it did was help her bankroll inch closer to the $1 million mark.
Sylvain Filion got away second with Kendall Seelster while Double A Mint hung up an opening quarter clocked in :27.4. Filion right-lined his charge in the backstretch, and in a matter of strides she muscled her way to the top. It was a short-lived lead, however.
Race favourite So Much More made a backstretch move of her own, and she powered to the top while racing parked past the half in :56. She continued to lead the way to the three-quarter pole in 1:24.1, but in the lane she was confronted by Kendall Seelster. The pocket-sitter launched a late attack and used a :26.2 final frame to post the win by three-quarters of a length over So Much More. Double A Mint rounded out the Trifecta ticket.
Rod Boyd trains the five-year-old daughter of Shadow Play-Kiddie Cocktail for 1187422 Ontario Inc of Ottawa, Ont. The victory was the 24th of her career, and the $16,000 payday boosted her overall bankroll to $986,286.
