Miracle Matts, with Corey MacPherson in the bike, won the featured Irene MacInnis Memorial Pace on Saturday afternoon at Red Shores at Charlottetown Driving Park. The time of the mile was 2:01 over a track downgraded during the card to sloppy with a four second variant.
MacPherson rallied Miracle Matts from fourth at the head of the lane for an exciting stretch drive and prevailed by a quarter-length over Cambest Kisser (Jason Hughes) with fraction-setter Nobestbfor (Walter Cheverie) hanging on for third. Blois MacPhail of Cornwall, P.E.I. was the winning owner and trainer.
Earlier on the card, Abundaspin, owned by Mikaela Lustic of Cornwall, was a two length winner for driver/trainer Harold Shepherd in the Open Trot in 2:04.2. Zip The Lip (Brian MacPhee) was second while Caliban Hanover (Ronnie Gass) completed the triactor. The 14-year-old earned his 73rd career win and now is two-for-three this year.
Marc Campbell continues his reign at the top of the driver standings and scored a Saturday hat-trick. The Winlsoe, P.E.I. native clicked with Rebelryan, Silky Britches and Whatrugonnado.
Ron Matheson, Corey MacPherson and Jason Hughes recorded driving doubles with Hughes, Jackie Matheson and Jonah Moase each scoring two training victories on the card.
The final card of the season is Friday, February 7 during the O’Brien Awards weekend. Post time is 6 p.m.
