A few days after marking the occasion of his 50th birthday late last November, Driver David Ingraham renewed acquaintances with trotter Jaavos Boy in Florida
. It was the start successful winter season campaign which is showing no sign of tapering off.
In the Wednesday evening edition of the $12,000 Open Handicap Trot at Pompano Park, Jaavos Boy was at the top of his game. Ingraham sent the S Js Photo-Hayworth Hanover six-year-old gelding to the front in the opening strides, yielded briefly to Florida arch-rival Keystone Thomas at the quarter in :27.3, and then recaptured the front to stride away through split times :56.3 and 1:25.4 en route to a decisive win in 1:54.3. Scorpion Moon took an inside trip from third into the stretch before unleashing a late stretch brush to take down second while Keystone Thomas had to settle for third. It was the first time since last November 30 that Keystone Thomas missed out on a top-two finish at the South Florida plant.
Barry Probber trains Jaavos Boy for the Probber-Morse Stable of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Since returning to Pompano last Fall after 2011 competition at Pocono Downs, Yonkers, and The Meadowlands, Jaavos Boy has used his superior gate speed to amass a record of 4-3-2 from nine starts. The career winner of over $246,000 is on course to challenge his 2011 earnings of over $103,000 since he's banked $18,000 already this year.
The wins continue to pile up for Paper Beats Rock after he romped again over $6,000 restricted claiming company on Wednesday’s program. For a fifth consecutive start since moving into the care of trainer/driver Richie Simard, the four-year-old Rocknroll Hanover-In Every Way gelding was a front end winner, this time in a life's mark of 1:53. Running Ron was second in the $3,700 test while Gimme Some Money finished third.
Paper Beats Rock was originally named Twin B Rock Star and his full potential may not be known. The pacer was a $40,000 yearling as hip 498 in the 2008 Harrisburg Sale. Ownership is held by Fred Monteleone Stable of Pompano Beach, FL.
